Track 1: Hardship (a Single) Emilie hopes this piece can encourage people to give themselves some time and space to befriend their vulnerabilities in order to transcend themselves. She wrote this music with a deep sense of sorrow after she witnessed how her mother endured the difficult task of caring for Emilie's father in spite of her own poor health. Emilie also hopes the music video for Hardship serves as a good reminder for all of us (herself included) that we are all human beings who have experienced hardship, and some people have heavier burden than others. |

Track 2: Prevailing
Emilie's approach to hardship is to rise above it. This piece begins with a feeling of melancholy, apprehension, and anxiety, showing that the protagonist is in some form of hardship. The themes then become energized with faster rhythms, accompanied by drums and other percussion instruments, indicating the protagonist is fighting to survive or remain in control to get through a challenge. |

Track 3: Insomnia
Unable to fall asleep or fall back asleep is a common condition that many people experience when they are in hardship. Emilie composed the opening of this piece during the COVID-19 lockdown when she couldn't go back to sleep in the middle of a night.
Track 4: Waiting
Sometimes, all we can do is wait for a problem to pass. Emilie began writing this piece in early February, 2020, when she was stranded in Taiwan after her connecting flight from Hong Kong to the United States was suspended indefinitely due to the coronavirus. Emilie then completed this piece when Michigan was in lockdown, waiting for the worst of the pandemic to be over.
Track 5: Wisdom
Depending on the types of life's challenges, sometimes courageous actions need to be taken in order to improve a situation. Other times, acceptance is the only path to peace. One way or the other, we often learn a valuable lesson and gain some wisdom after a hardship. This piece was inspired by the opening piano solo in Hillsong's "King of Kings" and Emilie's memory of a peaceful, starry night when she visited Yellowstone national park.
Emilie hopes her music can help people feel connected and validated in their life experiences. If you like her music, follow her on Spotify or add her music to your playlist in your streaming platform.
