Biography (Long Version)
Majoring in psychology, Emilie Lin (1969-) graduated magna cum laude and Phil Beta Kappa with distinction from Carleton College. As a musician, she frequently accompanied Carleton’s choirs, vocalists and instrumentalists, participated in recitals and chamber music ensembles, received an honors award in music performance, and was a winner of the concerto competition during her senior year. During her postgraduate years, Emilie devoted most of her time to becoming a cognitive psychologist in academia and a human factors specialist in industry. This led her to stop playing the piano completely for about 2 1/2 years. After earning her MA and PhD in Psychology (Cognitive Division) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a University Fellowship, Emilie went to the University of Michigan as a postdoctoral fellow, but left the position to pursue a master's degree in piano performance. She received the degree from the University of Michigan with full scholarship, and was a winner of the concerto competition as a first year master’s student. Since then, Emilie has maintained her performance skills by performing annually at her studio recital, occasionally at University of Michigan and PianoTexas International Festival & Academy (2007 & 2019).
